Coris Fue Ramune Whistle Candy Soda

Fue Ramune is the dagashi that solves two problems at once: something to eat and something to do.

Each piece is a small, compressed glucose tablet shaped so that blowing through one end produces a sound — a faint, piping tone that is the product’s defining characteristic and the origin of its name.

“Fue” means whistle in Japanese; “ramune” is the soda-flavored tablet candy format that has been a staple of Japanese children’s candy culture since the Meiji era.

Together they make the piece that children reach for when they want to do something with their candy rather than simply consume it.

Coris — the Osaka-based confectionery company established in 1948 as Kikyoya before becoming Coris in 1953 — has been making Fue Ramune since the company’s early years, when children’s gum and novelty candy were its core business.

The whistle function is not incidental: the piece is specifically shaped to produce the sound, with a hollow channel running through the tablet that allows air to pass and vibrate.

Eating the tablet naturally reduces the whistle’s effectiveness, which means the experience changes as you go — playing first, eating after.

The soda flavor is a clean, bright carbonated soda character — the generic effervescence that Japanese candy has associated with the term “soda” for decades, light and immediately refreshing.

The tablet dissolves progressively rather than all at once, releasing the flavor as it goes.

Each package includes a small toy box — a separate mini-container with a surprise toy inside, the format that has made Fue Ramune a standard fixture in dagashi shops since before most of its current buyers were born.

Eight pieces per package. Allergen-free across all 28 major categories.
