Mini Fresh is the one that does something different.

Every other variety in Orion’s Mini Series is built around a beverage flavor — cola, sour, soda, energy drink, fruit juice.

Mini Fresh is built around yogurt: the clean, lactic acidity and mild dairy sweetness of the fermented milk products that are as much a part of Japanese convenience store culture as any carbonated drink.

The key ingredient is sweetened pasteurized fermented milk concentrate — an actual dairy fermentation product rather than an approximation of the flavor through citric acid and flavoring alone.

This gives Mini Fresh a genuinely yogurt-like quality: the mild tartness from the lactic acid, the rounded sweetness that dairy brings rather than cane sugar alone, and a flavor that stays consistent through the piece rather than having a sharp front note that fades.

It is the softest and most gentle flavor in the lineup, which is also what makes it distinct.

Launched in July 1992, Mini Fresh arrived at a moment when Calpis and Yakult were shifting from niche health products to mainstream convenience store staples, and yogurt flavor was beginning to appear across Japanese snack and candy formats in earnest.

The bottle received a design refresh in February 2025, making it the most recently updated visual in the lineup.
