Nagewa means ring toss, and the shape is the product: thin potato rings small enough to wear on a fingertip, which is exactly what Japanese children do with them.
Tohato cuts them finer than the thicker ring snacks in its own range, and the thinness is what produces the sakusaku break — light and shattering rather than dense.
The seasoning is a Japanese stock in snack form.
Kombu, bonito, sōda-bushi and dried sardine powders go in together with scallop extract, which between them cover most of the umami sources a Japanese kitchen uses — kelp for glutamate, dried fish for inosinate, shellfish for succinate.
Those compounds multiply rather than add when combined, which is the principle behind dashi and the reason this reads as savoury depth rather than simply salt.
Tohato has made confectionery in Japan since 1952. 57 g to a bag, 314 kcal.
