Dodekai Ramen Tenkaippin Rich Soup is seasoned with the actual broth, not an approximation of it.
Oyatsu Company uses the kotteri soup Tenkaippin serves in its shops, and that is the whole proposition — a snack carrying the real thing rather than a flavouring built to resemble it.
What comes through is thick, savoury and chicken-heavy, with the opaque, clinging quality the soup is known for translated into a dry seasoning.
Tenkaippin is a Kyoto ramen chain founded in 1971, famous nationally for a broth so dense it barely pours.
Chicken and vegetables are simmered down for hours until the stock turns opaque and coats the noodles, and kotteri, meaning rich and heavy, is the name of its signature bowl — a word that has since become shorthand for the style across Japan.
For anyone outside the country who has heard of Tenkaippin without ever being able to get to a branch, this is the closest approximation available in a bag.
The noodle is Baby Star’s dodekai, meaning huge — wide, flat and ridged rather than the fine strands the brand has been built on since 1959, closer in shape to a crinkle-cut crisp.
That matters with a broth this heavy: a thin noodle would be overwhelmed by it, where the wide cut gives a substantial crunch and enough surface for the seasoning to sit on.
Released in September 2026 for Tenkaippin’s 55th anniversary, alongside the karaage version, with the chain’s founder illustrated on the front of the pack.
