Yuraku Vanilla & Chocochip Thunder Chocolate Bar

Vanilla & Chocochip Thunder is aiming at ice cream.

Vanilla and chocolate chip is the flavour combination that sells more than any other in a Japanese ice cream case, and Yuraku has rebuilt it as a chocolate bar — a cream-flavoured powder supplying the rich dairy weight that vanilla ice cream has, with chocolate chips folded through generously.

Texture is where the Thunder format earns its name.

Four separate crunchy elements go in: chocolate chips, waffle crunch, a crisp biscuit, and cocoa cookie pieces, compacted together and coated in chocolate.

Yuraku’s word for the result is zakuzaku, the sound of something breaking apart in layers rather than snapping cleanly.

It is why Black Thunder bars read as substantial despite their size.

Yuraku Seika launched Black Thunder in 1994 from its base in Tokyo, and the brand has since grown into dozens of flavours alongside the original.

This one was released in February 2026, first through convenience stores and then nationwide from March.
