Bourbon Mini Sylveine Chocolate Cakes Cocoa

Sylveine is Bourbon’s petit gâteau — a triangular wedge of cake, cream between the layers, the whole thing enrobed in chocolate.

It has been a fixture of the Japanese snack aisle for decades, and the appeal is that it behaves like something from a patisserie case while sitting on a shelf at room temperature.

Mini Sylveine is the same construction shrunk to a single bite, and the slogan on the front of the bag puts it plainly: a small size for a big satisfaction.

This is the cocoa version.

Where the standard Sylveine uses a vanilla sponge, here the cake itself is cocoa — soft, mild, more mellow than dark — with vanilla cream sandwiched in the middle and chocolate wrapped around the outside.

That makes three layers of contrast in something roughly the size of a thumb: the cocoa’s restrained bitterness, the cream’s sweetness, and the firmer snap of the coating.

Bourbon builds it on cacao mass and cocoa butter rather than compound chocolate, and a measure of Western liquor runs underneath, adding the faint aromatic lift Japanese confectioners use in baked goods.

Each cake is individually wrapped in a printed foil sleeve, around nine to the 85 g bag, at 45 kcal apiece.

That combination — small, sealed, and genuinely cake rather than biscuit — is why Mini Sylveine ends up in desk drawers and handbags across Japan.
