Morning Maam is Fujiya’s answer to a specific question: what should a soft cookie look like if it is designed for breakfast rather than as a treat?
The format is built on the Country Ma’am foundation — the soft, slightly chewy center-soft cookie that Fujiya has made since 1984 — but reformulated with a nutritional profile that makes it more appropriate for the first meal of the day.
The additions distinguish it from Country Ma’am immediately.
Whole wheat flour is worked into the dough alongside standard wheat flour, adding dietary fiber and a faint grain nuttiness that the standard version doesn’t have.
Milk oligosaccharides — specifically lactulose, at 610mg per bag — are incorporated as a prebiotic fiber component, the kind of functional ingredient more commonly found in yogurt and fermented dairy products than in cookies.
Shell calcium brings the calcium content to 170mg per bag. Dietary fiber total is 3.8g per 50g serving — meaningful for a cookie.
The flavor is vanilla, and the texture is the same soft, slightly yielding interior that Country Ma’am is built on: the white bean paste inside adding moisture and a mellow sweetness, the chocolate chips providing small pockets of bittersweet contrast.
The whole wheat flour gives the edge a slightly more substantial quality than a refined-flour cookie would have, and the grain note from the whole wheat is faint but present.
The cookie designed to make the morning routine slightly better without requiring any actual effort.
