Tabekko Suizokukan takes the beloved Tabekko Dobutsu concept underwater — and gives it a chocolate twist that sets it apart from every other biscuit in the family.
Where the classic animal biscuits are a land zoo, this is an aquarium: 47 different sea creatures in all, each a bite-sized biscuit shaped like a fish, a dolphin, an octopus, a jellyfish, or one of its many tank-mates.
As with its land-dwelling sibling, part of the fun is the variety in the bag — you never quite know which sea creatures you’ll get, since not every one of the 47 shapes appears in a given pack.
The real difference is the chocolate, and how it gets there.
Rather than coating the biscuits or sandwiching them, Ginbis uses a soaking method — ganshin — that draws chocolate all the way into the center of each piece.
The chocolate is baked into the biscuit itself, so there is no messy shell to melt on your fingers; instead, every bite gives you the crisp texture of the biscuit and the smooth melt of the chocolate at the same moment, fused rather than layered.
It is a genuinely different eating experience from a standard chocolate biscuit, and the feature reviewers most often single out.
The rest is pure Tabekko: a light, easy, moreish bite, made with added calcium in the same parent-friendly spirit as the whole series.
Slightly more indulgent than the plain butter animals thanks to the chocolate, it’s the version to reach for when the craving leans sweet — a whole aquarium’s worth of little chocolate-soaked creatures in one bag.
