Kato Wasokan Nodo Ame Japanese Herbal Throat Candy Apricot Kernel

The Apricot Kernel version of Wasokan Nodo Ame is the second in the lineup, built on the same five-herb foundation as the original but with one addition that changes the flavor register entirely: xingren shuang — apricot kernel powder, a traditional ingredient in Chinese medicine and dessert culture prized for its gentle, almond-adjacent fragrance and its long history as a throat-soothing ingredient in its own right.

The five herbs remain: licorice root for its deep, slightly bitter sweetness and throat-soothing properties; cinnamon bark for warmth; ginger for its sharp, airway-opening heat; luo han guo for cooling sweetness; and clove for its mild numbing quality.

The apricot kernel powder works alongside these rather than over them — its delicate, faintly floral fragrance softens the herbal bitterness and adds a gentle aromatic quality that makes this version more approachable than the original while keeping the functional character intact.

The candy is colored a soft orange from carotene, making it visually distinct from the original’s darker profile.
