Meiji Kinoko no Yama Chocolate Biscuits Anno-Imo Sweet Potato Family Pack

This is Kinoko no Yama’s autumn edition, and the chocolate cap has gone sweet potato.

Grown on Tanegashima, an island off southern Kyushu, anno-imo is the sweet potato Japanese shoppers pay a premium for — roasted whole, it turns almost custardy and runs to around 40 percent sugar, which is why it is called the honey potato and why every confectioner here reaches for it in autumn.

The cap turns a golden orange rather than brown, which is startling the first time you open a bag, and the flavour is soft and mellow — roasted sweet potato rather than cocoa, with sweet potato powder and condensed milk powder giving it a milky, almost baked-dessert character.

Meiji pairs it with the plain cracker stalk rather than a chocolate one, so the biscuit stays neutral underneath and lets the imo carry.

This is the family pack: eight small sealed bags of 12 g inside the outer bag, 68 kcal each.

The format exists for sharing and portioning rather than volume — a bag in a lunchbox, a bag at a desk — and it keeps the rest sealed while you work through them. A seasonal edition, available for a limited period only.
