Morinaga Hi-Chew Soft Candy Grape

Hi-Chew has been Morinaga’s soft candy since 1975 — a chewy, fruit-flavored confection that sits in its own category between gummy candy and taffy, with a texture that is firmer than a gummy but dissolves completely rather than pulling and stretching the way taffy does.

It has become one of the most internationally recognized Japanese confections, and the grape flavor is among the original lineup that established the format.

The construction of a Hi-Chew piece is specific: an outer layer of white soft candy surrounds an inner layer flavored and colored with concentrated grape juice, the two working together so that the grape flavor intensifies as you chew through the piece and the layers begin to integrate.
