Miyako Kombu is a snack made from the soft, uniquely sweet makonbu kelp, and is flavored with vinegar and sweeteners. It is produced by Nakano Bussan and is named after Kyoto, the hometown of its founder and creator, Shoichi Nakano. Kelps are cut into thin rectangles and packed in a familiar small red color box. The kelp is covered in a generous amount of white powder known as “magic powder,” which gives it a strange taste that is both salty and sweet.
