Orion Mini Cola Bottle Ramune Candy

Mini Cola is where the Orion Mini Series began.

It launched in November 1978 — the founding product that established the miniature pull-tab bottle format, the hard chewable tablet texture, and the concept of putting a dagashi candy inside a container that looked exactly like the drinks children saw adults drinking but couldn’t have.

It has been in continuous production since then, has been covered by television and media more times than Orion can count, and is officially one of the three pillars of the company alongside Cocoa Cigarettes and Mini Sour.

The bottle is registered as a trademark — a small but significant detail that reflects how specifically the Mini Cola format has been identified with Orion over nearly five decades.

The pull-tab lid opens the same way as a real canned drink; the bottle is small enough to hold in one hand; and the instruction on the packaging — “don’t try to drink it” — has been there since the beginning, which tells you something about how convincingly the container does its job.

The cola tablets inside are the firm, chewable type that defines the Mini Series: denser than dissolving ramune, requiring actual biting and breaking down through chewing.

The cola flavor — built on a seasoning that includes tamarind pigment for the characteristic cola color — arrives immediately and carries the same spiced, slightly caramelized sweetness that makes cola flavor recognizable across any format.

The sourness follows from the acidulant, adding the carbonation-adjacent quality that distinguishes cola candy from a plain sweet.
