Asahi Ippon Manzoku Bar Cereal Black 80% Less Sugar Nutrition Bar

The Cereal Black is the version of Ippon Manzoku Bar built for people who want the crunch and nutritional density of the lineup but with substantially less sugar.

Where the Cereal White delivers the full sweetness of white chocolate, the Cereal Black reduces sugar content by 80% compared to the standard Cereal Choco — achieved through the use of maltitol, a sugar alcohol that provides sweetness with a lower glycaemic impact and fewer calories per gram than sucrose.

The chocolate here is a bitter dark chocolate — cacao mass, cocoa powder, and dextrin in a coating that is noticeably less sweet than the other varieties in the lineup.

The bitterness is the point: it makes each piece feel more like a proper dark chocolate confection than a low-sugar compromise, and it pairs differently with the cereal base underneath.

The corn flakes and wheat puffs provide the same zakuzaku crunch, but the contrast between the slightly bitter coating and the grain’s natural starchiness produces a more adult, less confectionery-like experience.

The distinguishing inclusion is macadamia nuts, cut into pieces and distributed through the bar alongside raisins.

The macadamia adds a richer, buttery crunch at irregular intervals — softer than the cereal, with enough fat to add a roundness to the flavor that offsets the bitterness of the dark chocolate without sweetness.

Dietary fiber is notably higher than the white version at 3.9g per bar, and iron content is the highest in the standard lineup at 5.0mg — one-third of the daily reference value.

The bar for people who find the sweeter versions too much, and who want their snack bar to taste like something worth eating rather than something worth tolerating.
