Blueberry Ramune has the most dramatic history of any product in Orion’s Mini Series.
It launched in April 1983 — the fifth variety in the lineup, following Cola, Sour, Orange, and Peach — and was then discontinued.
The reason Orion gives for its return is the one that most clearly explains what dagashi culture means to the people who grew up with it: customers kept asking.
The product came back in December 1990, and has been in continuous production since.
The 2025 packaging refresh was the most recent update to a bottle whose core identity has been unchanged for over three decades.
The flavor is the sweet-tart combination that blueberry produces when it is concentrated into a candy format: deeply fruited and slightly earthy in the background, with a tartness that is more complex than lemon or peach and a sweetness that builds through the piece rather than arriving all at once.
Grape pigment and gardenia extract provide the deep blue-purple color that is instantly recognizable as blueberry before the first bite.
Calcium carbonate is present in the formulation alongside the standard sugar and starch syrup base, adding a mild mineral note and the calcium that the label is able to highlight as a nutritional feature.
The tablets are the firm, chewable type that defines the Mini Series — not dissolving, but breaking down through chewing and releasing the blueberry fragrance gradually.
Orion describes the experience as the sweet-sour aroma of blueberry filling the mouth, which is accurate and understates how much effort they went through to bring this particular flavor back.
