Meiji Meltykiss Fruity Rich Strawberry

Strawberry is a winter fruit in Japan.

That sounds wrong to anyone from Europe or North America, where strawberries mean June, but Japanese growers shifted the crop into greenhouses decades ago and the season now runs from December through spring — which is why strawberry desserts appear here alongside Christmas cakes rather than at midsummer.

Meltykiss is a winter-only chocolate, so a strawberry version is not a contradiction. It is the season lining up with itself.

The flavour is built for fruit rather than for cocoa.

Meiji uses white chocolate as the base — cocoa butter and whole milk powder ahead of any cacao mass — then works strawberry powder and apple powder through it, so the tartness arrives with real fruit acidity rather than as a sweetened pink flavour.

The pink comes from vegetable colouring.

Against that, the Meltykiss texture does its usual work: the cube is formulated to melt near body temperature and collapses almost immediately, releasing the strawberry all at once rather than letting it build.

Meiji is Japan’s largest confectioner, and Meltykiss is where its chocolate research goes into texture rather than intensity.

The storage requirement says it plainly: 23°C, lower than almost anything else on a Japanese shelf, and the reason this chocolate simply does not exist here in summer.
