Glico Winter Kuchidoke Pocky Chocolate Cocoa Finish

Winter Kuchidoke Pocky exists because of a seasonal constraint, not in spite of one.

Kuchidoke means the way something melts in the mouth, and Glico uses a chocolate formulated to do exactly that — softer and lower-melting than the standard Pocky coating, which makes it wonderful in cold weather and impossible to sell in summer.

So Glico sells it in winter only, releasing it in October and withdrawing it when stocks run out.

The coating is applied generously, far thicker than on a regular Pocky stick, then finished with a dusting of cocoa powder.

That outer layer does two things: it adds a dry, faintly bitter edge that keeps the richness in check, and it changes the first contact — you taste cocoa before the chocolate begins to melt underneath.

Glico’s phrase for the result is yasashiku tokeru, gently melting.

Pocky has been on Japanese shelves since 1966 and is the country’s most internationally recognised snack, but the winter editions stay domestic.

Japanese shoppers treat their appearance the way they treat the first frost — a marker that the season has turned.

Released 6 October 2026, alongside a Winter Kirameki edition made with browned butter and caramel.
