The name says two layers, and that is what Glico has changed.
The first layer is the chocolate you would expect from a premium Pocky — dense, dark, deep in cacao.
The second is a mousse chocolate wrapped around it, aerated so it collapses on the tongue and releases the first layer underneath.
The effect is a slower, softer melt than a single coating gives, and the cacao aroma keeps opening up as the piece disappears rather than arriving all at once.
Glico built this for the adult end of the Pocky range.
The sweetness is pulled back deliberately, letting the cacao’s own bitterness and fragrance carry the flavour, and the result reads closer to a couverture chocolate than to a children’s snack.
The pretzel underneath is made with wheat gluten and fermented butter, which keeps a firm, savoury snap against all that softness.
One bag carries 259 mg of cacao polyphenols, the marker Japanese chocolate makers now print on anything positioned as serious.
Two sealed bags to a box, which is the standard Pocky format for keeping the second half fresh.
Best with black coffee, or the way many people here take it — alongside whisky or red wine.
