Morinaga Korokoro Hi-Chew Soft Candy

Korokoro Hi-Chew takes the Hi-Chew formula and reshapes it entirely.

Instead of the familiar rectangular stick, each piece here is a small sphere — about the size of a large marble — with a thin sugar shell on the outside and the soft, chewy Hi-Chew candy within.

The round format changes the experience in several ways that are immediately apparent once you open the box.

The sugar coating is the first difference.

Standard Hi-Chew has a slightly sticky exterior; Korokoro is dry to the touch, which means no residue on the fingers and no pieces sticking together.

The shell gives a brief, light crunch before giving way to the chew underneath — slightly firmer than standard Hi-Chew, with a density that makes each small piece feel more substantial than its size suggests.

The box contains four flavors — grape, strawberry, melon, and soda — dispensed through a beak-shaped opening that releases one or two pieces at a time.

The format is designed with intentional mixing in mind: Morinaga positions the flavor combinations as part of the appeal, with grape and melon producing a muscat-like result, and various other pairings offering different outcomes.

Reviewers tend to discover their own preferred combinations fairly quickly.

At 40g per box the format is more compact than a standard Hi-Chew pack — the version for pockets, bags, and desks rather than sitting down to finish a full sleeve.
